In the port of Amsterdam, construction is underway on the new home of TMA Logistics, consisting of a new commercial building and a warehouse of more than 25,000 m2. The prefabricated shell and insulated concrete walls come largely from Preco's state-of-the-art concrete plant in Apeldoorn. And not without reason.
TMA Logistics is an important logistics player in the North Sea Canal area and its services are steadily expanding. This includes new premises. The new business premises have already been completed and the finishing touches are currently being made to the warehouse (phase 3), with which TMA is further increasing its storage capacity. The project is being built under BREEAM-NL by Groothuis Bouwgroep. 'Regular partner' Preco was responsible for supplying the precast concrete elements. "We were also allowed to supply the previous phase and in that capacity we were also asked to make an offer for the warehouse," says Robbert Blokland, project manager at Preco.
Most of the precast concrete elements have now left Preco's factory at Ecofactorij in Apeldoorn. "In March this year, we were commissioned to engineer, produce and supply over 2,200 m2 of insulation walls," Blokland continued. "The insulation walls are 200 mm thick with an outer shell of 60 mm and an insulation core of 80 mm PIR. The walls were delivered to site over a period of about five weeks from mid-May and assembled almost immediately. After all, just before the summer vacations, the building had to be wind and watertight. And it did." Separately, Preco also delivered around seventy pieces of 200 mm thick walls for the docks, as well as 39 pieces of 100 mm thick wide slab floors for placement on top of the dock walls and the necessary "accessories" such as uprights and girders. The walls of the pump room and stairwell walls also come from the Apeldoorn factory.
Preco no longer turns its hand to such large quantities. "It's routine work for us," Blokland says. "However, it was important to get everything engineered on time so that we could start production quickly. That requires good coordination, also with the client, in this case Groothuis Bouwgroep. By keeping each other well informed and being honest and transparent about what can and cannot be done, you overcome everything. Even if the planning is so ambitious. That has once again been demonstrated here. Moreover, the end result is worth it." By the way, it is not Preco's only project in Amsterdam. "We are right at home here," Blokland laughs. "For example, we also supply the precast elements of residential tower The Bridge, provided with polished, red concrete. The smooth, slightly shiny color and the visibility of the mixture's structure give the building a unique look."
So Preco is also the right place for "specials. "As a total supplier in precast concrete, we respond to the needs of our customers and the increasing demand for efficiency on the construction site. Whether it is many, large or special, we take the complete package off your hands. With the new construction of TMA, we have gained another great reference," Blokland says with appropriate pride. The ambition is to deliver the company building with the 4-star BREEAM-NL Excellent certificate.
