On Monday, June 5 and Friday, June 9, 2023, a total of 47 Barli employees attended a Trimble Connect workshop. At the home builder, they will now look at how to optimize the entire process and improve information sharing using Trimble Connect. Therefore, employees from various departments and subcontractors that Barli routinely works with attended the workshop.
Barli is a modular home builder, with homes made primarily of wood. 10 years ago, they started modeling in Tekla Structures, and in 2020, two Trimble Connect Business Premium licenses were added. This license gives them access to useful extensions in addition to unlimited online projects, cloud storage and participants. Mick Knoben, Process Specialist at Barli, says, "We started using Trimble Connect as a viewer because we wanted to view the model from Tekla Structures on the iPad, in both the outside crew and production. Since we are now also going to look at how we can share information more efficiently with our outside crews and assembly halls, we wanted to dive deeper into the capabilities of Trimble Connect'."
For that reason, the lumber builder is choosing to train staff in various departments in Trimble Connect. "We currently still send an old-fashioned email or printed drawing with notes to the outside crews and assembly halls. In the workshop, we saw that this can be much easier," Knoben explains. "There are quite a few ways to communicate with each other in one way, such as assigning tasks to people using ToDo's. If someone then takes over the project, or a third person joins the project, everyone can see the same files."
Knoben: "The workshops involve all the engineers and modelers who work in Tekla Structures and plug the info into Trimble Connect. But also team leaders and people who are in production who manage a group here, who really look at the model and give instructions to colleagues." A number of Barli's regular subcontractors also attended the workshop. "We have cooperation with them at such a level that we share the models with each other and also expect them to give input into the model. Then it is also nice that they know how we put things in Trimble Connect. In addition, we can then start working with tasks in the models so everyone knows what is expected."
In the outside shifts and in production, tablets have been used for about 4 years. "Here there are about 35 tablets in circulation right now," Koben says. But they are also already thinking about the next steps. "We have a lot of projects in a project folder on a local server. A first step is to share them via Trimble Connect. In addition, we would like to eventually be able to project walls on a floor. so that we can immediately see where to mount them. If that can be done through Trimble Connect that would be very nice!"
