To cope with the growth, Seaport Brewing decided to work according to the principle of silent production. To this end, the brewery built a brand-new production facility in Evergem where mainly tanks for beer production will be set up. The building is constructed with columns of 26 meters: the ideal length to apply a column shoe connection.
That Valcke Prefab Beton chose the solution of Peikko from Arnhem is self-evident. After all, as the inventor of this cost-effective solution, this company is the unbeatable expert in technological ingenuity and adequate assistance.
Seaport Brewing's new production facility in Evergem is conceived as a large space of 5,100 m², which will mainly house tanks. "Hence the need for colossal columns," explains Joris van Hezewijk, sales and marketing coordinator of Peikko. "In this project we are talking about versions with a length of 26 meters, so the application of a column shoe connection was appropriate. This is a method we developed 30 years ago to anchor concrete columns quickly, easily and safely, in the same way as steel columns are mounted. Specifically, the system consists of column shoes on the bottom of the column and anchor bolts in the foundation. The column with column shoes is mounted on the anchor bolts. After tightening the nuts, a moment-proof connection is created immediately. Result? A concrete column can be assembled in eight minutes! And this moreover without having to use braces, so the contractor can once again save a lot of man and crane hours."
That Valcke Prefab Beton once again chose the Peikko column shoe connection in this project is quite logical. "Buildings with columns of these dimensions have been fitted with this solution as standard with us for years," said project manager Bert Loyson. "The reason is mainly that we don't have to install braces, because calculating, installing and dismantling is an expensive business with such long columns. Moreover, if we did not use a column shoe connection, the site would become impassable for a large part because of the many large braces and brace blocks. It is therefore a very cost-efficient solution that allows for fast assembly and also makes the site safer. The application of column shoe connections in such projects are therefore logic itself. Peikko's years of experience are repeatedly translated into an engineering and service that is completely tailored to the project and user. This allows their clients to deliver to their full satisfaction and within the predetermined deadline every time."
