For 54 years, BSE Betonwerken of Ermelo has can be found on construction sites throughout the Netherlands. However, with Erwin and Nicole Ruiter at the helm for several years, much has changed. BSE is still an all-rounder in the field of concrete, but the customer apparently wants more. And if you can then also deliver, you grow fast, also in width.
Contractor Peter Goris knows all about that. "At the request of the then foreman of the extensive RIVM new building, we helped out for three weeks at the beginning of the structural phase. And now in the finishing phase we are still active in Utrecht with small concrete work such as piling, repairing and pouring, while we also install and set frames and doors. In fact, we do most of the work that falls between the cracks. For example, at our peak we had 80 people working here. That also tells you something about the confidence the general contractor has in us."
"But we remain in the role of subcontractor, only we are growing in that role," adds Nicole Ruiter. "By growing in breadth, we can do everything to do with concrete. Because contractors increasingly want to place the complete concrete work with one party, we quickly come into the picture. BSE is one of the few parties that can provide such a broad package. Because Erwin is often on construction sites for consultation and supervision, he has a good view of the work floor. There you can see what the real needs are and where we can support and relieve the contractor. And so our network is growing steadily."
You just need good people for that. Employee foreman Arnold Loedeman calls this one of BSE's strengths: "Putting the right people in the right place. That's not easy these days. Not only do you need professionals, you also need many hands to keep a construction site running. By and large, we manage to find a good match for all tasks. And that's really worth something in these times."
Meanwhile, at several locations in the Netherlands, people from BSE are working on the core business of concrete work, particularly wet concrete: laying foundations, pouring and finishing/flattening concrete floors, in-situ pouring of concrete walls and beams, assembling wide slab floors, precast assembly, setting precast walls and supporting concrete structures. "Then it's very convenient if you can also make and deploy precast formwork," Goris adds. "We also have all support materials like PAL towers and props in-house, as well as all possible means of securing a construction site for the people working there. That gives our company speed and flexibility. And with our experience, we can also be very solution-oriented. Just say what you need and we'll come up with it quickly."
"Indeed, despite our growth, we are still a flexible, flat organization," concludes Ruiter. "That means that we are able to start a project quickly from the first contact and realize it in a very short time at a competitive price. Leave that to our professionals."
