First CSC certificates in Belgium

The first CSC certificates have been issued in Belgium. CSC guarantees the sustainable production of concrete and provides security for buyers. It is awarded based on requirements regarding the environmental impact of a company, but the influence of social and economic aspects on the environment is also assessed.

AC Materials from Puurs, Declercq Stortbeton from Waregem and Van Akelyen bouwmaterialen from Zele each received the first CSC certificates from Jef Lembrechts, president of the Flemish Confederation of Construction: "With this, these companies are clearly frontrunners in the field of sustainable business." SGS, as an independent certifying body, took care of the audits and the awarding of the certificates which took place at the MATEXPO trade fair.

Certificate for concrete preservation

The CSC certificate was created by the Concrete Sustainability Council. This worldwide organization stands for the sustainability of concrete. To make this transparent, the organization created the CSC certification system. Among other things, it guarantees the responsible origin of the raw materials used and the use of an optimal production process with respect for people and the environment. The certified companies also commit themselves to continuous improvement of their processes and minimization of their environmental impact.

Certainty for the buyer of concrete

On the occasion of the first CSC certificates, FEDBETON (federation of ready-mixed concrete producers) and FABA (federation of general building contractors) organized a seminar. Peter De Vylder, director FEDBETON: "The CSC certificate offers certainty to users of concrete. In Belgium, this certificate is becoming the benchmark to work with." More and more clients are requesting or requiring the use of sustainably certified construction products as part of sustainability assessment systems. CSC is recognized as a certification system for responsible procurement applicable within the framework of BREAAM certification. This not only gives CSC-certified companies an advantage when supplying projects seeking BREEAM certification. It also provides project developers with an additional opportunity to earn points for the system.

CSC in the Netherlands

More than 200 certificates have already been issued worldwide. In Belgium, the CSC certification system is represented by FEDBETON. In the Netherlands, the CSC certification system is represented by Betonhuis, sector Concrete Mortar.
