It's party time at concrete producer Mebin. Recently, the subsidiary of Heidelberg Materials in the Netherlands completed the recertification of 30 concrete plants. Mebin received April 25 28 CSC certificates at the Gold level and, for the first time in the Netherlands, two CSC certificates at the Platinum level for its plants in Alkmaar and in Katwijk. "A world first and a wonderful achievement by everyone within our organization, we are proud of it!"
As the first concrete producer in the world, Mebin also achieved CO₂-Module and R-Module certification for 30 of its concrete plants, thanks in particular to its now famous product EcoCrete®, available in different compositions based on CO₂ reduction and the addition of concrete aggregate (30%, 50% or 100%). With EcoCrete®, Mebin has an important asset for the nationwide supply of CSC-certified low CO₂ concrete and concrete with recycled aggregates. "The successful re-certification of our plants underlines our commitment to the sustainable production of concrete for our customers in the Netherlands," said Bas Pije, Mebin General Manager. "CSC-certified concrete such as EcoCrete® will help our customers achieve better results in BREEAM- or LEED-certified green building projects."
Thanks to the CSC certificate, Mebin's customers know that the concrete is a transparent product, made with raw materials from reliable and traceable sources. Customers in the concrete industry can immediately see from the certificate to what extent a concrete supplier contributes to the sustainability of construction projects. Of great importance for any construction project. "That we have achieved this again," concludes Elke Koehorst, "is worth a great compliment to everyone within the Mebin organization."
CSC certification has four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Since 2017, Mebin has had gold certification for all of its concrete plants. Now the subsidiary of Heidelberg Materials has again demonstrated that the standards of gold certification are met, and even platinum certification for two plants: Alkmaar and Katwijk. "The difference," explains Elke Koehorst, Manager of Raw Materials & ESG, "is in the supplies of sand and gravel. The suppliers in Katwijk and Alkmaar were themselves awarded Gold CSC certification, so these points count more heavily in their final score."
"With a CSC certification, we show that we do business in a socially responsible way, looking specifically at social and economic aspects, as well as how we have arranged matters at each plant," Bas Pije continued. "Here the supply of raw materials is also an important part."
