Meco Metal Construction Steel ISO 14001 Certified

6 Years after the corporatization of Meco Metal, the team succeeded in meeting all the requirements of the environmental standard ISO 14001. Internal motivation was the driving force to achieve this certification.

"Meco has worked hard in recent years to optimize its processes. In this, the LEAN approach has proved decisive. Wastes have been identified and are being addressed in a process of constant improvement. Not only by Meco's management team but by the entire organization. This made the step to the environmental standard easier," says business manager Harry Seijkens. "The processes were already well described and recorded in the Liemar-X ERP package. The insights this gave us made the path to the environmental standard relatively easy," Seijkens continues his story.

"Usually a company takes two years to meet these requirements. We completed it successfully in six months. Caring for our environment is something that concerns everyone. Therefore, the staff's motivation to properly separate waste streams was not a problem. Together with our waste processors, the container park and the entire waste stream at our company were reorganized, eliminating many costs. A nice side effect of this process.

The environmental goals for the coming years are also clear, the entire industrial hall (75,000 m2) has already been switched to LED lighting with a payback period of 2 years. Energy consumption has decreased by 10% per year in recent years, this with a strongly growing production. This decrease in energy consumption has been reduced by identifying the heavy energy consumers and finding smart solutions for them. Energy consumption was also high on criteria list in the investments of recent years." Seijkens concludes, "We clearly notice that achieving this standard has a positive effect on our attractiveness as an employer, and that is what we need in our permanent search for additional professionals.
