On the A2 between Eindhoven and Veldhoven stands the new sustainable office building of Airios (formerly Honeywell). The HVAC specialist's building is naturally equipped with state-of-the-art installation technology, is the first office in Veldhoven to have no gas connection and is energy-neutral.
The unusual main supporting structure is composed of steel columns and cantilevered laminated beams of (maximum) 800 mm in height. On these, by JG Steel plate concrete floors bv, Comflor100 floors were installed that were left exposed underneath within the building. This creates a beautiful interplay of lines with depth, which is especially beautiful in the atrium.
The steel floor slabs are screwed to the wooden structure, with the slabs joined together from below with screws. The concrete overlay incorporates underfloor heating, including on the roof floor. The underfloor heating lies on an additional galvanized cross mesh, and on this in turn lies the main reinforcement of the screed. The floor package and the laminated beams have a fire resistance of 60 minutes.
The complexity lay particularly in the overhangs outside the facade line. Therefore, in consultation with the contractor and structural engineer, an outrigger construction was made with a platform on which the edge box, among other things, was secured. Outside, the ceilings were finished with wooden paneling.
