BSE betonwerken BV is a company that knows well how to support and relieve contractors from large to small. The Ermelo-based company specializes in pouring concrete foundations, assembly of floor systems and precast concrete structures and all the combination thereof. This goes beautifully together with February Rental BV, which rents out formwork and support materials such as props, PAL towers and tripods. In the new hall, prefabricated formwork can now also be made, with which BSE has already carried out the first projects.
"Normally you deliver formwork materials to a construction site and there everything is custom-made," begins owner Erwin Ruiter. "We know from experience that there are disadvantages to this method, and thus what the advantages are of prefabricated formwork. For example, there are plenty of construction sites where space is limited. If we prepare, saw and number everything in our workshop, you as a contractor can use the limited space for other things. The fact that we don't create waste on the construction site is also important. The requirements for waste disposal are getting stricter, especially for projects where sustainability plays a big role."
For Danny Looper, estimator and work planner at BSE, the most important thing is the quality of the formwork.
"We don't build formwork on site, we work here in the workshop from construction drawings to a well-considered formwork and delivery plan. Then, in a clean, dry and safe environment with all the right equipment at hand, we can make, number and group the parts. Dust and waste do not end up on the construction site and leftover parts can sometimes be reused. Those on construction sites usually disappear into the dumpster. In our own clean, dry environment, with an air system, saws, shot hammers and good tools, you make better formwork than anywhere else."
The result is then also better. Ruiter: "In the preparation we look at what we are going to make and what problems we might encounter, and then we put it together. If you are going to do that in all weathers on a construction site, the quality is undoubtedly less. I think that with this higher quality, more space on a cleaner construction site and the time savings that prefabricated boxes bring, we are doing the contractor a lot of favors."
In the construction of the second phase of Schuytgraaf, a shopping center with apartments above in Arnhem, BSE successfully introduced the prefabricated approach.
Looper: "On a temporary construction of PAL towers from Ruiter Rental BV, we made entire beams wet there with temporary boxes. These were first completely laid out here in the workshop to see if it works and fits. Then a layout was made with numbered parts and everything was put on transport with support materials. The puzzle is then assembled on site. This takes significantly less time than building a formwork on site. At Schuytgraaf, by the way, it involved edge beams for three floors, each with its own dimensions."
With the acquisition of support materials earlier this year, Ruiter Rental BV also acquired a large amount of safety equipment. Ruiter: "We then got access to two and a half kilometers of edge protection. With this we can now make all work situations safe ourselves. That's another piece of extra service to the contractor."
