Three companies, one family

Otri, with its subsidiaries Jako, Yelloo and Matemco, provides a multitude of solutions for the structural and renovation phases. Matemco joined the Otri family in July. All three companies have partnership and service as anchors. Director Jeroen Jansen: "We are looking for synergy between the family members, something that has already succeeded well with Jako and Yelloo."

Merging the three companies is a logical step, according to Jansen. "The different companies were often already involved in the same construction projects, but in different phases of construction. For example, even before the acquisition, Matemco and Yelloo were both working on the WTC in Amsterdam. The fact that they both now belong to the Otri family makes it even easier to coordinate work properly. Moreover, only one project manager is ultimately needed, instead of two or three." The companies need to be well aligned so that the whole family will work in the same way. "All the companies have quality very high and strive for partnership with the customer. What differs is that Jako is already used to being available 24/7, whereas Matemco is not. We are looking for a working method that works for the whole family, it has to become a synergy," Jansen said.

Matemco strengthens Otri

Matemco is the newest member of the family. "This company has a lot of expertise in concrete construction, both infra, residential and non-residential. Matemco also has a lot of engineers and constructors, as well as a lot of equipment. This strengthens the company Otri very much. You just need a lot of equipment, even when work goes over schedule. The acquisition of Matemco allows us to take on more challenges from each other." The new subsidiary adds nine engineers and two fabricators to Otri.

Other subsidiary Jako has an extensive formwork program. "This is a wonderful addition for Matemco and so the different Otri companies complement each other very well," says Jansen. "Jako has everything needed during shell construction, such as anchors, material to tape off facades, construction site equipment and person elevators. This equipment the company sells and rents." In addition, Jako has a formwork department. "Jako is involved in all types of projects in the Netherlands. The company supplies all types of formwork, except tunnel formwork."

Unique floor formwork system

A unique product from Jako is the self-produced panel formwork system for floors. Here, heavy-duty outriggers and formwork panels are the basic system components. Jansen: "This is a functional principle in which the underlay is completely superfluous. No comparable slab formwork system even comes close to the Topec system in terms of efficiency. Other systems in which it is scaled in must be discarded after one or at most two times. The Topec system is aluminum and can be used over and over again." According to Jansen, Jako is a one-stop shop for structural work, for the concrete builder. "The company also supplies concrete spacers, which are used for large floors in industrial halls." Jako is available 24/7 and aims to be a true partner of the customer.

Third family member Yelloo has been part of Otri since 2014. "This company is mainly in renovation of concrete works and steel. Yelloo specializes in the renovation of bridges, among other things, and then supplies both the scaffolding under the bridge deck, the suspension bridge installations, wall protection, stair towers and scaffolding to get on that bridge and the foils for the scaffolding to work ergonomically." Jansen outlines how the three companies can be involved in a project. "Otri as a partner can actually provide everything, Matemco provides the engineers and the design, then Jako provides materials and provides the foundation. Then Yelloo can get involved for the renovation and maintenance of the facade."

3D or 4D work

The way of working with BIM must also be aligned between Jako, Yelloo and Matemco. "Matemco is leading the way with this and does everything in 3D and 4D, while Jako and Yelloo also still work in 2D. Working in the third dimension is also very different, because pipes then really have to be 2.5 meters long, for example, while in 2D the space is left to combine, say, a 1 and 1.5-m pipe. So together we are looking for a new way here that works for the whole family." To unify the company in terms of appearance, the logos of the three Otri companies have all been given the recognizable triangle referring to the parent company.
