Commonly used moisture meter for concrete got upgrade

"To our own surprise, we hear that our equipment is even used to measure chocolate layers on candy bars," says Johan Figlarz, Internal sales & marketing team leader at Elcometer BV. This makes it clear how accurate and user-friendly Elcometer's equipment is. For more than 75 years, the company has been a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of inspection equipment for the coating, concrete and metal detection industries. It also supplies blasting and paint spraying equipment. Recently, the widely used Elcometer 7410 moisture meter received a facelift.

"This moisture meter has been given a more modern look and has become more user-friendly. It fits better in the hand and is easier to operate. Years ago we designed this moisture meter for contractors, steel manufacturers, steel processing plants and construction companies. So in terms of applications, the meter is widely applicable and very accurate." Because the device can measure the moisture content of the concrete without penetration, there is no need for drilling.

Concrete Inspection

The Elcometer 331 cover gauges and half-cell gauges are also widely used within concrete and steel construction. Available in two variants, these rugged rebar detectors are reliable and very affordable. "In the latter, we really make the distinction. The value for money is so favorable because of the simplicity of our device. It is not packed with all kinds of new gadgets, such as scans, but simply measures what it is supposed to measure. The accuracy is what makes this instrument so popular. For example, we have a customer in Groningen who manufactures all kinds of precast walls for construction. She lowers the framework into the concrete while it is still liquid. As a result, she never knows exactly where the reinforcement is, but with our Elcometer 331 she can locate the reinforcement exactly afterwards." 

Multiple accessories are available, including various probes, an extension cord and a verification block. In addition, all search heads, borehole probes and half-cell probes are fully interchangeable.

Own R&D department

Fifteen years ago, Elcometer came to our country and is now the market leader in the Netherlands and Belgium. "Currently we are in a momentum. Our office in Nieuwegein is going to become the European service hub, through which we will also service France and Germany. Because we have our own large R&D department and therefore all the expertise in-house, the customer never has to wait long when a device unexpectedly breaks down. Years of knowledge and experience ensure that we can offer our customers full support, even after the purchase. We are always in close contact with our customers, in part because ninety percent of the electronic instruments we sell come with a calibration certificate that must be renewed periodically. We also offer our recertification and recalibration services from Nieuwegein."

Everything for the coating industry

Elcometer's core business is blasting, paint spraying and inspection equipment for the coatings industry. The owner's motto is "Spray it, blast it, test it. In other words, Elcometer offers the equipment needed for every stage of the coating process. In 2021, Elcometer acquired two companies, namely Sagola and Blastline Ltd. "As a result, we also produce mobile blast pots and paint guns, making us currently the only supplier that really has everything for the entire coating process. Moreover, because reporting the measured values is becoming increasingly important, we offer free data management software for PC and mobile devices with iOS or Android operating systems."

Elcometer's commitment to quality is evidenced by its ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification. Asked about the future, Figlarz replied, "There are several things in the pipeline at the R&D department, but I can't say anything about that right now." What is clear is that Elcometer is constantly renewing itself and always responding to developments in the market.
