Winners Circular Awards 2022

Kickoff of Circular Economy Week with winners Janssen de Jong Construction, Roetz and Aeres University of Applied Sciences

The winners of the Circular Awards 2022 are known. The Circular Award Business Large 2022 was won by Janssen de Jong Construction (ModuFair project) and the Circular Awards Business Small 2022 by circular bike brand Roetz. The Circular Award Public 2022 was presented to Aeres University of Applied Sciences. They are the most innovative companies and governments showing what the circular economy can mean for the Netherlands. In addition, Menno Rubbens, Sandra Nap and Bram Peters received the recognition 'Circular Hero 2022' for their efforts as instigators. The presentation kicked off the seventh edition of the Week of the Circular Economy.

Circular Award Business Large 2022: Janssen de Jong Bouw (ModuFair)

Janssen de Jong Bouw developed the ModuFair housing construction system to build circular apartment buildings. Here, no new raw materials are used unless there is no other way. In addition, the various components are detachable, allowing them to be given a second or third life in another building at the end of their useful life.

Jury president Ilse de Vos-van Eekeren (program manager Circular Business at NS, winner Circular Awards Business 2021): "ModuFair is a circular view of apartment construction. There are virtually no virgin materials used, only secondary and biobased. We also appreciate the business case, because despite its circularity, ModuFair is no more expensive than traditional buildings. Even though the project has only been realized once, the promise is great."

Circular Award Public 2022: Aeres University of Applied Sciences

Aeres University of Applied Sciences has a new sustainable school building in Almere. For example, the roof of the "Green Lung," as the building is called, was saved from burning. The shell is made of circular concrete and the furniture was taken from the old building, refurbished or bought second-hand.

The jury expressed appreciation for the exemplary function of this new building for its students. Jury chair Jacqueline Cramer (strategic advisor Utrecht Sustainability Institute) said, "The future generation is important in the shift to a circular economy. Aeres University of Applied Sciences reflects this in an environment that is healthy and has an impact on student performance."
