Reconstruction N211 Wippolderlaan definitively awarded to Mobilis-Van Gelder

Reconstruction N211 Wippolderlaan finally awarded to Mobilis-Van Gelder

The Mobilis-Van Gelder contractor combination will carry out the N211 Wippolderlaan reconstruction in the province of South Holland. The project includes the widening of the road between the A4 and N222 and the construction of a flyover junction N211-Laan van Wateringse Veld and the N211-N222 junction. A partial redesign of recreational area the Zweth zone is also part of the project. Work will start after this summer and should be completed in 2027.

The N211 Wippolderlaan is an important connecting road along Wateringen between the A4 and the Erasmusweg in The Hague. More than 71,000 motor vehicles use this road daily, making it one of the busiest provincial roads in our country. Once completed, the reconstruction should improve traffic flow and prevent traffic jams.

Extent of reconstruction

In the project area, living, working, recreation and construction come together. The road between the A4 and the N222 will go from 2×2 to 2×3 lanes. There will be a fly-over junction between the N211 and the Laan van Wateringse Veld just like the N211-N222 junction. From the newly constructed traffic circle at Laan van Wateringse Veld the road will rise with a fly-over over the N211. A partial redesign of the adjacent recreational area the Zweth Zone is also part of the reconstruction. The design of the road includes (additional) sustainable measures against light and noise pollution.

South Holland Province Commissioner Frederik Zevenbergen (Traffic and Transportation portfolio) is pleased with the final award: "After years of preparation, we are now ready for Mobilis-Van Gelder to start work on the N211 Wippolderlaan as contractor. This is an important milestone and we congratulate them on this assignment!"

Collaboration

In the Mobilis-Van Gelder partnership, each brings its specialty to the table. For example, Mobilis has a civil engineering orientation and Van Gelder focuses on ground, road and water work. In practice, this turns out to be a good and successful combination.

Van Gelder is deploying intelligent VRIs to reduce traffic disruption during construction. They pre-construct the decks of both the fly-over and the sunken location elsewhere and then drive them to their final location. In this way, bicycle and footpaths remain safe and maximally available.

Planning

After the coming summer period, the contractor consortium will start the preparatory work, such as moving cables and pipes and felling trees. The reconstruction of the N211 Wippolderlaan must be completed by 2027 at the latest.

Final award

The province of South Holland chose Mobilis-Van Gelder on the basis of the Most Economically Advantageous Tender (EMVI), which means that a weighting was made between price and quality. Sustainability and minimal environmental and traffic nuisance were also important considerations. The province issued the proposed award to Mobilis-Van Gelder in mid-April. With the expiration of the legal protection period of twenty calendar days (Alcatel deadline) the award is now final.
