Silver jubilee of a golden guy: Barry van den Reek 25 years with Liemar

As technical director, he has a full portfolio: determining software development, managing programmers and consultants and, of course, implementing LiemarX and making it perform optimally at and with customers. The latter is what he - for 25 years now - enjoys most about his work. Barry really knows everything about Liemar, is extremely helpful and always in a good mood. In short: this anniversary is a party for all of us!

Barry once started at Liemar as an intern. Jan van Hapert: 'As a graduation internship, Barry worked on a project for Liemar. Within six months he developed a well-functioning planning module in Excel. This was then developed by Frank de Moor and integrated into Liemar. Over the years, of course, it became a database instead of an Excel file and we integrated project, production and personnel planning. But Barry developed the start of the planning module as we know it today 25 years ago.'

Shortly after graduating, Barry found a job in The Hague. Barry: 'A day before I was to leave, Jan asked me to stay at Liemar.' Jan: 'I absolutely wanted to keep him. With his qualities he would definitely be of added value within Liemar. He has a good vision of software, how it should work and what it should bring users. He has an intrinsic affinity with it. Moreover, he is not content if something does not work 100%. And he takes care of it, too. So we can nicely guarantee 100% failure-free operation of the program.'

In the 25 years that followed, Barry worked on the transition from MS-DOS to Liemar 7 in Windows and then the move on to LiemarX. Barry: 'By now we have a nice, comprehensive total solution. Moreover, Liemar is much more than just the software. Sure, it has to be good, but ultimately it is about how you help the user further in what he wants to achieve. Getting the best out of it together. Getting better together.

People-man

According to Jan, besides being a professional, Barry is also a nice guy to work with. Toon van Hapert agrees: 'Barry is a passionate consultant who sets high standards for our product and service. At the same time, he manages the team in a pleasant way and can very relaxedly take the time to explain LiemarX to a new user. A demo from Barry can really win over a potential customer. He has a special mix of qualities.'

Barry: "Liemar is a great company because of the people who work there. Open, sociable, friendly and helpful. That makes it very easy to work with pleasure. We can laugh with each other, we make good software and provide good service. All nice, long-term collaborations come out of that and that makes me proud.'

Barry: 'I guess I'm not the most difficult. Sometimes a tad stubborn. But that's good. That's part of it.'
