SIM Steel Construction: 'Digitalization with Liemar makes us future proof'

SIM Staalbouw, based in Bergeijk, Brabant, has crystal clear objectives. Harry Seijkens, general manager: "Within a few years, we want to be among the top steel construction companies in the Netherlands and be a leader in safety, lean operations and the environment. We are going to virtually double our production capacity - even in the shorter term. We will go from 5,000 to 10,000 square meters of production space and deploy new machines. To achieve all these goals, we must first ensure a strong foundation.'

Harry was already familiar with Liemar and had worked successfully with them before. Nevertheless, he felt it was important to work with the steering committee formed for this purpose to weigh several options for SIM Steel Construction. 'We have open-minded searched for a solution to our issues. Part of that search was to make reference visits, to see how the options worked in practice. LiemarX is a complete package and in it we found what we were looking for. The digital workshop, planning module and Liemar's ability to ensure a flawless implementation were the deciding factors.

Liemar's planning module really stood out during the reference visits, according to Harry. 'The core of lean working is eliminating waste. This is only possible if you have insight, and planning is crucial to this. A good planning module gives you the ability to make a reasonable estimate of what you need to do next week. With that insight, work planning can see how much capacity is available in each department. And if the input is good and you include that properly in the planning, so you describe per project how much capacity you need on each machine from each employee, you end up with a very good insight. That insight leads to profitability.'

'We are going to digitize the entire company, so we are also saying goodbye to the A0-size prints that people are still walking around with now. The use of tablets is going to ensure that information is available more quickly, work can be communicated with immediately, and so work has to be stopped less often.'

SIM Steel Construction is going to make great strides in the coming years and chose Liemar for its digital support in doing so. 'Everything you can build on, that has to be laid out in advance. Implementing an ERP package properly with a digital workshop and especially that planning module, you have to do that in advance. You have to make sure that's in place before you get that acceleration in production. I have seen how much peace is created in an organization when you have this in order. And what wonderful results you can achieve. We expect to achieve this with Liemar.
