The difference between delivering and reporting ready

The difference between delivering and reporting ready

The terms "deliver" and "report ready" are regularly used interchangeably. But there is an essential difference. And misunderstandings about this can have quite major consequences.

Thus, upon acceptance of a completion of a work (or part thereof), the risk passes to the client. Then several important deadlines also start. Consider the maintenance or warranty period, as well as any expiration or limitation periods of you as the contractor. In addition, delivery is often the benchmark for determining any construction time overrun, with all the consequences that can come with it.

It is therefore very important to ensure that you make proper arrangements with the client about how a handover will take place and when it will take place. For example, it may be advisable to do a round of inspections or pre-completion before the formal completion, to avoid any last-minute unexpected issues that might stand in the way of acceptance.

A delivery does not mean that all (administrative) work has been completed. It could be, for example, that costs still need to be booked, or that sales invoices still need to be sent. To support this, a distinction is also made within LiemarX: you can deliver (partial) projects and eventually report them finished. So these are two different statuses a project can have. The distinction in LiemarX is:

Delivered

When a project has the delivered status in LiemarX, we consider the project finished to the extent that you, as the company creating the project, have finished all actions for this project. No more sub-phases/sub-projects can be created for this project. No more hours can be booked on this project either, because you are done with this project. This makes it clear to everyone in the organization that no more work needs to be done.

The project - including any scheduled hours - disappears from the planning, because there are no more activities to be performed. However, purchase invoices can still be booked on a completed project and you can eventually send sales invoices for this project. Therefore the project remains visible in the OHW list by default, unless it is desirable to base the OHW list only on the status 'not delivered'.

Done

When a project has the ready status in LiemarX, we consider the project fully completed. So this is one step more ready than the status delivered, which we just mentioned. Any project that is reported ready is also always delivered. So everything that is valid for a completed project is also valid for a completed project. When a project is ready, nothing more can happen on this project at all. The project is financially finished and no more purchase invoices and sales invoices can be booked on this project. Also, all documents are then automatically archived and the project disappears from the OHW list.
