Time tracking: scanning, entering or both?

Booking and processing hours is often a time-consuming task. Especially if this is still largely done manually with, for example, 'old-fashioned' time sheets. Oh, I don't remember that exactly... I always fill in something... Oh, hadn't I done that yet?' These kinds of realization moments are often the beginning of a lot of frustration and extra work.

However, the information is very important to get and keep a grip on your business and your projects. You have insight into the number of hours worked in a project and the costs involved. Because work schedules, leave plans and fixed roster days can be entered, the planning of a project and departments are also properly estimated and updated.

That's why we've been providing time tracking software for years that we've developed entirely in-house. We have not done this alone, but in cooperation with the industry that actually uses it.

Electronic timekeeping simplifies the tracking and processing of employee hours. This offers many advantages. On the one hand, projects can be planned more efficiently and profitably, and on the other, it saves a lot of time that can be better spent.

In doing so, you can choose how to record those hours. The hours can be scanned or entered manually. Which method is most suitable for you depends entirely on the dynamics within your company.

In the overview below, we take you through the main differences in a nutshell.

Mode of entry

- Scanning bar codes

- Enter by choosing from a list of available employees, activities and projects.

- Employee arrivals and absences can also be scanned via a proximity tag.

- Manual entry

- Enter by choosing from a list of available employees, activities and projects (possibly using barcodes).

Combination scanning and entry

A combination of the above is of course also possible. Several options are possible, but a good example is that only the start and end of the shift are scanned, so that it is clear who is present. This registration is then also used to pay for the hours worked. The hours for the subsequent calculation of the projects are then entered afterwards.

Payroll

To determine overtime, the hours worked that are entered in one of the above ways are used. These hours worked can then be divided, possibly differently for each employee, into what are normally payable hours and what are overtime hours.
